Ideas Under Construction

I love writing. My family can attest to the prolific nature of my weekly emails, and I do a fair amount of freelance editing and writing every week. I have long heard a nagging voice in my head enticing me to start a blog where I can write away to my heart's content on all manner of subjects. One thing has restrained me in the past: I hate keeping up with all of the postings. I don't like sorting through posts and comments on other people's blogs and the thought of having to monitor my own sets my teeth to "tightly clenched in disdain" mode.

See, my right brain (the half of me that won out in college and resulted in a B.A. in Humanities) happens to be plagued by left-brain tendencies toward order and simplicity that sometimes border on obsessive. In my ideal world everything makes sense and stays clean and neatly organized until you decide to creatively make messes on purpose. Blogs always seem to get messy haphazardly, growing and morphing organically. They are like essays with great initial theses that subsequently find themselves hijacked by literary terrorists. The comments and posts and collections and links fill the blog like so much clutter, clouding the blog's purpose and keeping it from ever reaching a conclusion.

Not that I mean to compare the friends and family who would most likely read and comment here to terrorists...but certainly a few inane and profane readers will somehow find my blog out here on this vast World Wide Web and mess it up. That fear lurks in the back of my holistically-inclined mind and has up til now kept me out of the blogosphere.

It's time to set aside such concerns and face the chaos of the Internet with my keyboard at the ready. I'm taking the first step: consider this post the start of my official blogging career. Will blogging one day be part of my vocation in life? Will it be a creative outlet that adds value to the Net? Only time will tell. Stay tuned for future ideas to be born here.
